Course Description

This course introduces teachers to the aims and pedagogical foundations of Environmental Studies (EVS) at the primary level. It emphasizes experiential, inquiry-based, and inclusive approaches to help children explore relationships between the natural, social, and cultural environment. Participants learn to design engaging lessons, integrate field-based and community learning, and apply diverse assessment tools aligned with NCF 2023 and NEP 2020. The course also fosters reflective practice, environmental ethics, and professional growth for sustainable and child-centered EVS teaching.

What You will Learn?

1. Describe the meaning, nature, scope, and objectives of EVS in line with NCF and NEP. 
2. Design EVS learning experiences using constructivist, inquiry-based, and activity-oriented approaches. 
3. Use fieldwork, local environment, group work, and low cost TLMs to make EVS child-centered. 
4. Plan competency-based, thematic, and interdisciplinary EVS lessons with attention to safety. 
5. Integrate ICT and real-life contexts to enrich EVS teaching– learning. 
6. Use varied formative and summative assessment tools appropriate for EVS. 
7. Apply inclusive, gender-sensitive, and sustainability oriented practices in EVS classrooms.
