Active Learning Strategies for Young Learners
Course Description
This course helps primary teachers shift from passive lecturing to active, student-centred teaching. Participants will learn and practice cooperative learning, role-play, games, inquiry-based methods, and simple assessment strategies to create engaging, age-appropriate lessons that boost understanding, confidence, and creativity in English-medium classrooms.
What You will Learn?

Explain the meaning and core principles of active learning and differentiate between passive and active classroom practices.

Design and implement simple cooperative learning strategies such as Think‑Pair‑Share and Jigsaw with small mixed‑ability groups.
➢
Use role‑play, story‑based learning, and simple simulations to build communication, social skills, and subject understanding in young learners.
➢
Align low-cost physical or board games with specific learning outcomes in Math, Language, or EVS.
➢
Facilitate a simple inquiry cycle (Ask → Explore → Explain → Reflect) around a real-life question suitable for young learners.
➢
Create a complete lesson plan that integrates at least two active learning strategies and aligns activities with clear learning objectives.
➢
Design and use simple formative assessment tools (rubrics, checklists, observation notes) to track student participation and progress in active tasks.
