Course Description

This course introduces early algebraic thinking in primary grades  through an inquiry-based approach. Participants will explore how to  teach patterns, expressions, and variables using real-life contexts,  hands-on tools, and meaningful discussions. Emphasizing conceptual  understanding over rote procedures, the course equips educators to  design engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate algebra  lessons that nurture reasoning, generalization, and problem-solving  skills in young learners.

What You will Learn?

By the end of this module teachers will be able to –
❖ Understand early algebraic thinking as patterning,
generalization, and reasoning.
❖ Identify and address common student misconceptions in early  algebra.
❖ Design inquiry-based, age-appropriate algebra lessons using  real-world contexts.
❖ Use manipulatives, visuals, and technology to deepen student  understanding.
❖ Facilitate math discussions that promote reasoning,  justification, and communication.
❖ Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners across  readiness levels.
❖ Apply formative assessments to evaluate students' conceptual  understanding of algebra.
